Welcome to Glendale City Church
We are a welcoming, affirming, and safe congregation for all who attend—whoever you are, whatever your journey or background. God excludes no one, and neither do we.
Our mission is to reveal the love of Christ in all its tenderness and grandeur to the community in which we live. We desire to embrace the wonder of humanity in its complexity, diversity, and beauty--and to do so without precondition. In short, we yearn to reveal the splendor of Christ and to affirm the worth of all people.
Worship Service on
Saturday, August 29, 2015
Whether you’re a regular member or a visitor, we encourage you to continue to fellowship with our church family after the worship service. Please also feel free to contact any of our pastoral staff if you have a question or need help.
Sunset tonight – 7:24 p.m.
August 29, 2015
Hopefully you can see multiple meanings in the logo, such as: a busy street intersection—our church is dedicated to active service at the heart of Glendale; a simple cross—the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is at the center of our congregation; or four different people coming together. This is the central meaning of the logo. In addition to our motto, “Revealing Christ, Affirming All,” you will see a new motto as well:
“Finding God at the Intersection of our Lives”
We believe that we are a church called to bring people together from all walks of life, and that we discover God’s presence as we come to know one another. As Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”
Today’s flowers are given in celebration of Doug & Sandy Schultz’s 50th wedding anniversary!
Please continue to remember in your prayers Judson Ravi, Marguerite’s daughter, Kevin Teesen, Kathryn Magarian, and Jim and Betty Glenn Miller. Judson Ravi is recovering and is now staying at The Terraces, 2587 E Washington Blvd., Pasadena.
Glendale City Church is pleased to welcome its new interim choir director, John Dennison. Dr. Dennison is well known to our congregation, as he has previously served as our choir director for 13 years; he will be leading the choir through the end of December. Choir rehearsals and worship anthems will start again on September 12, after the summer break. This is a good time for you to join the choir and sing! Please contact Dr. Dennison or one of the pastoral staff if you are interested in being a part of our choir.
Important notice to all potential choir members: John Dennison is planning a special all-afternoon retreat at Harold Fanselau’s home next Saturday afternoon, August 29, from 1 to 6 p.m. It will be a fun get-together, but will also be a learning musical experience as we sing and socialize together, and as we get to know John better (for those who may not know him from before). We believe that volunteer choir members hold an essential key to the success of our choir, and we are placing a new emphasis on volunteer members as the core foundation of our choir. Important note: if interested, please inform Pastor Leif (email@example.com, 909-557-5230), so that the Fanselaus can have a tally of how many to expect. Lunch and mid-afternoon refreshments will be offered to all participants. Come—and invite a friend to join you!
Vatican supports naming square after Martin Luther: A central square in Rome overlooking the Colosseum is to be named Piazza Martin Lutero, after the Protestant Reformer. The Vatican’s decision comes six years after Seventh-day Adventists first made the request. There are only 435,000 Protestant in Italy today. —Religious News Service/Huffington Post

A Shared Table. Do you yearn for authentic spirituality? Are you tired of having to swallow narrow-minded, simplistic religion in order to belong to a spiritual community? Do you wish Jesus was better than how He's been portrayed to you? Herb Montgomery knows exactly what you are talking about. Raised in a religion that portrayed a fearful, judgmental Jesus, Herb went on a quest for something better and found a new Jesus he had never met before. On the weekend of October 2 and 3, Herb will come to City Church for a series of presentations: Friday, October 2, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, October 3, 10:50 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The seminar is free of charge. All welcome. for more information: email@example.com or 818-244-7241
