Making it Through the Holidays. The holiday season is often especially difficult for those who are grieving. Please come to this afternoons Seniors Academy for a seminar that will provide a basic understanding of the grieving process as well as some valuable coping skills that will help you make it through the holidays.

Galen Goben has been involved with grief and loss for over 20 years, beginning as a pastor, providing funerals for the community and now as Forest Lawn’s Grief Support Director. In this role he is responsible for providing grief resources for the communities surrounding Forest Lawn’s nine locations. He meets with bereaved people helping them normalize their experience. He provides referrals to bereavement groups, therapists and books and publications that grieving people can access to give them the support they need to manage their grief in a healthy way. He has traveled grief’s mandated journey on many occasions following the deaths of his mother and father as well as many close friends. These deaths have been expected and unexpected as well. Galen is certified in Thanatology through the Association for Death Education and Counseling. He is currently attending Fuller Theological Seminary studying for his Doctorate of Ministry in Thanatology. He has presented workshops around Southern California to groups ranging from hospice, churches, law enforcement, nursing students and counselors.

There will be no Seniors Academy in December.Next luncheon will be Saturday, January 19
